When does a hobby turns out to be passion.

It has been almost 18 months I started learning dance. What was THE thing which made me learn dance? Or what attracted me towards dance? This was the question which came up in my mind.
My father neither have encouraged me to learn dance nor learn singing nor any sports activities.(I guess all Eldest son has to go through this...)

Its only when I started working, I myself went to a Dance academy and got enrolled into the dance classes.

Believe me... There are lot of people in this world who judge others with their appearances.
I know I'm not that much of a great dancer, But I can dance to the tunes with the timing , I had the music sense and I can catch the beats very quickly. Even my Dad never thought I would dance good,  'cos the truth is he has never seen me do a stage performance before with all those dance costumes till that point of time..

My mom is totally a dance freak. She is so enthusiastic, her enthusiasm in  dancing and singing Totally rocks.

Pour soul, in a male dominated world, what can she do, to make her son learn dance.

I joined the classes and started to learn free style dance. At first for me Dance was like shaking your legs according to the tunes.

But after entering into the classes, I came to know that, there are lot of things more than shaking your legs,

1) How to be expressive on stage.
2) How to balance your body while dancing, and catching the tempo of the song etc…

Dance is more like yoga or something. You control your mind and body and balance of your body.
Till then I thought dancing heavily to a song ( preferably to a Kuttu song ) is the best way to dance.
But after I got to know the elegance and beauty in different styles , I started to build a passion towards dance.

Hip hop - It’s more of jolly, naughty kind of dance. A lot of things can be expressed over steps than in expressions.

Jazz - It’s more like you feel the music and dance. Her expression plays more of an important role. Body balance is important here. One wrong move you can get an injury.

Free style - It is a style of moving around freely without any restrictions.
There is no better teacher than LIFE and mistakes, you learn in each and every phase, every minute, and every second.

My first stage performance was more of free style of dance. It was kind of mixture of hip hop and jazz. The show held at Chinmaya Heritage centre in Harrington road. It was good show for a set of beginners.

My dad never agrees that I at least "danced" on the stage on that day. He is my worst critic yet a different kind of motivator I should say.
He knows me in and out. He knows that whenever he pulls me down, I would stand up , climb again.

My second show held in Music academy. Ever since I saw people perform on Stage. I always wanted to perform on Music academy and Aila! My dream came true. I danced for 2 songs. One was of more of Hip hop style and filmy dance and other was free style and Filmy dance. This time I had to improve on my timing, balance and co-ordination with the team and expression. The expression quotient was always a problem to me.

The dance master said that it was a good show, but  he said the energy was down.
My third show was in Kamarajar arangam. Another stage where I wanted to perform my best. This time it was hip hop style. We did our best and gave our best. First time I had to dance with a property ( Hat). This show turned to be 30 % disaster to me. I skidded and fell to the ground and got up and started dancing again.

I didn't have the self-satisfaction that I had in the previous 2 performances.
My last performance was in Egmore Museum Theatre. This time I wanted to show that I can be good dancer, more expressive and can have more energy. Things went on well and I felt I'm right on track again.

To my surprise, my Dad came in and said "Good show, was way better than the previous shows"..  I was like “ahh now!! What am i hearing", ”but" he continued , "Oh ! God I guess he never gets satisfied with anything", I thought.

"You have to reduce your weight!!" he said and patted on my back.

Now Dance and music have become more than a hobby to me. A passion which will never fade away.

P.S -; I have mentioned only few styles which i know :)
